In July, the Fund paid over 560 million denars for sick leave allowances – the majority of the funds for maternity leave
p>The Health Insurance Fund continues with the continuous and timely payment of salary allowances on the grounds of temporary incapacity for work (payment of sick leave).
As of 28 July 2026, although the month has not yet ended, the Fund has paid a total of 560,9 million denars on the grounds of sick leave allowances, of which:
- 420,3 million denars for maternity leave allowances;
- 140,6 million denars for other types of sick leave.
The payments were realised according to the following schedule:

This represents the highest amount paid to date during one month for allowances on the grounds of maternity leave, which is another confirmation of the Fund’s commitment to providing funds in a timely manner for the exercise of the rights of insured persons.
At the same time, the Fund informs that there is no delay in the payment of maternity allowances.
For maternity leave, the only condition for the start of payment is that for the first month the payment of contributions must have been made in accordance with the legal regulations. After this condition has been fulfilled, for each subsequent month the allowance is paid immediately after the end of the month to which it relates, following prior administrative processing, professional control and approval by the competent services of the Fund.
For other types of sick leave, in addition to the administrative processing, control and approval of cases, a legal precondition for payment is that the contributions for the month for which the allowance is paid must have been paid. Due to this legal obligation, in individual cases there may be a postponement of payment. This does not apply to maternity leave, where, after the first payment has been made, the procedure proceeds continuously.
The Fund remains committed to the efficient processing of cases and continuous payment of allowances, with the aim of enabling insured persons to exercise their legal rights in a timely manner.
