Public announcement regarding the provision of prescription medicines covered by the Fund
06/08/2019
In order to fully provide prescription medicines covered by the Health Insurance Fund of the Republic of North Macedonia, which is one of the main priorities of the Government of the RNM, and given that for many years this has been a problem for our insured persons due to the existence of quotas for pharmacies, that is, financial limits for pharmacies for dispensing prescription medicines from the primary positive list, we inform the public of the following:
- The Fund is intensively undertaking appropriate activities and measures to abolish quotas for all pharmacies and to introduce new control mechanisms when prescribing prescription medicines covered by the Fund in surgeries, as well as for their collection in pharmacies with inspection of the personal identification document (identity card or passport) of the person collecting the medicine.
- A prescription medicine at the pharmacy may be collected by an insured person only if they identify themselves with a personal
- identity card or passport. Where the insured person is unable, for health or other reasons, to collect the medicine personally at the pharmacy, the prescription medicine may be collected on their behalf by another person who must identify themselves with their own identity card or passport.
- The Health Insurance Fund is working to reduce the risk of possible abuse and irrational prescribing and use of medicines by introducing additional processes, applications and control mechanisms.
- All these efforts should enable the availability of prescription medicines throughout the whole month, and not as before, when due to quotas being reached after a certain day of the month, pharmacies remained without medicines for insured persons.
