The Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) methodology, in addition to being a system for recording and invoicing health services for acute hospital patients, is also a method for recording and financing hospital health care. The DRG methodology contributes to the standardisation of medical therapeutic procedures according to evidence-based medicine (protocols and clinical pathways), which are performed for each diagnosis with payment according to average costs incurred for the health service in any health institution.
